Like our yoga practice, there is always something new being presented. Today it's a change in the mobile app for Apple devices. It's not the best timing since we JUST rolled out our switch to fitDEGREE, but it is happening now, and so we adjust.
Due to some recent changes in Apple’s guidelines, we will be moving all registrations and purchases of virtual classes, events, and series off of your iOS mobile application. We know, this is not ideal. If you don't use the app or have an Android device, nothing will change for you. Going forward, the class schedule will still be viewable on the iOS application but to complete the process of registering or purchasing, you will need to head over to either our website or use the web browser version of our fitDEGREE app. Please make a bookmark to either of these pages so you can easily come back whenever you want to register! When we resume in-person classes, it is likely that we can resume using the iOS app for booking classes again. For now, this is the adjustment that has to be made due to Apple's new policies.
So why is this happening?
Back in September, 2020 Apple decided that group fitness classes that were instructed via livestream were now considered “Digital Goods” and fell under their umbrella of influence by becoming an “In-App Purchase." In-App Purchases were typically reserved for App Store games such as Angry Birds, CandyCrush, etc. With the fitness industry going digital, Apple decided to seize the opportunity to audit additional platforms to seek new revenue streams. The ramifications of In-App Purchases have many consequences. If we did not redirect you to our website or Web App, we would be paying a 30% processing fee to Apple. A fee that could very easily cause our business harm. Moving these purchases to the Web and Android app only will allow our business, and other small businesses, to continue collecting 100% of our revenue. While we recognize this as an inconvenience, we don’t believe that taking 30% of a small businesses’ revenue is fair nor just. The final takeaway from this would be that it is important to bookmark our studio website or the fitDEGREE app on your computer, phone, or tablet if you wish to continue purchasing and registering for virtual sessions. When we resume in-person classes, it is likely that we can resume using the iOS app on Apple devices for booking classes again. For now, this is the adjustment that has to be made due to Apple's new policy. Thank you for your continued support!
