These uncertain times call for creativity, support, lots of communication and lots of caring.
As schools reopen virtually for the fall semester Aug. 17 in our local public districts, we are coming together to support educators, students and parents through our Seva (service) practice.
During the first month of school, Revolution Yoga in Rincon Valley is offering free classes to educators working in the two districts serving our neighborhood: Santa Rosa City Schools and Rincon Valley Schools.
We understand this is a particularly challenging and unique moment in time, and we see public education as the backbone of a just and equitable society. We want to support educators working in our neighborhood schools by giving them easier access to the calming, centering and grounding practices of yoga and meditation.Â
The free classes will be available between Aug. 15 and Sept. 15, and you can choose to attend online or in person outdoors. You can check out our full class schedule at www.revolutionyoga.net
To take advantage of this offer, please contact studio owner Shoshana Hebshi at revolutionyoga108@gmail.com.
In addition to these free classes for educators, we are working to support Helen Lehman Elementary School in central Santa Rosa, in which one of our instructors, Emily Seguine, teaches. The school is a low-performing school with many English-language learners and serves a low-income community.
During the weekend of Aug. 22 and 23, each class will be an opportunity to support Helen Lehman Elementary. Revolution Yoga will donate $2 for every person who attends class during the weekend to the school's PTA, and yoga students can match or exceed that donation as well. We will also be asking our community to donate school supplies for the students who will be doing distance learning. Requested items for donation are:
Glue Sticks
Colored Pens
Colore Pencils
Spiral Notebooks with Lined Paper
Pencils
Crayons
Colored Paper/Construction Paper
Decks of Playing Cards
Dice
We are grateful for the work of our community's educators, and we are happy to lend a supportive hand where we can.
